Jose Mourinho is set to name a new captain at Real Madrid for the upcoming season in place of goalkeeper Iker Casillas.
Casillas, who has played over 450 times for the Spanish giants, is the current captain but it is believed that the Portuguese manager is in favour of having an outfield player as his captain.
During his time as manager of Chelsea and Inter, Mourinho had outfield captains in the shape of John Terry and Javier Zanetti respectively.
La Liga - Mourinho to strip Casillas of captaincyAllegedly, the 48-year old boss thinks it would be beneficial for his team to have one of the outfield 10 as captain because they are able to communicate with the referee in a more positive way.
It is rumoured that Sergio Ramos and Xabi Alonso are the two main candidates for the role. And although it may cause some controversy amongst Real Madrid fans, it seems that they have voted in numbers to put forward that the former Liverpool midfielder Alonso is the best option.
